Since Dems say that oil drilling is dumb and a short-term fix, can libs tell me where I can buy a solar car??

How about a methane car? What about a hydrogen fuel-cell car? Anything under $30,000? Can we have an electric car that relies on COAL?

Can there be anything more blind than ignorant democrats?Since Dems say that oil drilling is dumb and a short-term fix, can libs tell me where I can buy a solar car??
Liberals tend to have an ';either or'; mentality. They simply get confused when presented with a ';this and that'; argument..Since Dems say that oil drilling is dumb and a short-term fix, can libs tell me where I can buy a solar car??
Bush said, ';we're addicted to oil.'; Your answer is to feed that addiction with more oil.

The more we rely on oil and subsidize oil companies, the longer it will take for these alternatives to become practical.

There are a bunch of leases that the oil companies could be drilling in, but they ramped down their exploration capability last time oil was $10/bbl or so, and so they don't even have the capability to explore the current leases. Why should we give them any more?

You could buy a hybrid, like a Chevy Malibu, which is less than $30,000. You could buy a diesel car to run on biodiesel. You could take the bus, you could ride a bike. You could carpool. You could take public transportation. You could get a job closer to home.

Your gas mileage would be a lot better if Congress hadn't stalled on increasing CAFE requirements for the past 32 years.

“Much of what we’re seeing today could have been prevented or ameliorated had we chosen to act differently,” says Pete V. Domenici, the ranking Republican member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and a 36-year veteran of the Senate. “It was a bipartisan failure to act.”
Your post is pretty choke-full of ignorant too.

Do you know how long it takes to find a spot to drill and set up the rigs? A few years at least. The big rigs off the coast of brazil won't be done for another decade or so, and that project started a couple years ago. That doesn't sound like a quick fix or a long term fix since demand will continue to rise pushing the cost per barrel even higher.

Rather than waste money and time for something that is bad for the environment, bad financially, and bad as a short/long-term fix, perhaps more money should be spent on the technologies you suggested.
Why, wouldn't that be the effects of free market capitalism?

Why should liberals tell you where to buy something that isn't in mass production yet, because of the active effort of oil producers?

Oil drilling is a short term solution, because the only way to bring down the price of oil is to glut the market.

Which the oil companies who also owns refineries are depending on to reap huge profits.

Here is what will happen with more drilling....

By the time the oil wil hit the market, the strategic reserves will be drawn down.

When the oil hits the market, the price will be maintained until the tax payer is finished paying the higher $150 a barrel price for the strategic reserves to be filled.

Once it is filled...

Their lackies in the whitehouse will work on raising the value of the dollar, probably under the guise of paying for the war or some other miscalculation by the Bush admin that will cause a need for raising taxes.

After extra dollars are absorbed from the economy and pushes dollar values up, the oil company owned refiners will buy the oil their parent companies sold to the strategic reserves for half the price that was paid to oil companies for it. Pushing refining profits up while oil company profits slump, and always at the taxpayer expense.

if you haven't noticed, it is about time for another ';read my lips'; situation. But that is only if you ook back and compare historical events to present times.
I'm not a liberal but I read recently that the new prius will have solar panels on the roof. I don't like the hybrid cars because they are more expensive and not necessarily better for the environment until after a certain amount of miles.

And no, there can be nothing more blind, but then again any type of overly political, religious or pretty much any believing zealots are hard to deal with.
It's dumb, a short-term fix, AND it won't start paying off for 20 years!

Look at the bottom of your legs. Those things projecting out, in your sneakers? Move them. Ride a bus. Ride a bike. Carpool. You can't make this go away by crapping up the planet even more.

Is there anyone so blind as an uninformed conservative?
right over at B. Hussein Obama's used car lot, where the slogan is '; if its democrat its like an Obamantion! ';We need to drill to use our shale oil and off shore on shore , might even considering presenting Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi with bills to be paid in oil for protection and liberation services

I think it's dumb that you want to keep the oil companies in business and line the pockets of already-rich people who you'll never meet and will never help YOU out, while we all pay $100 for a tank of gas no matter what our political affilliation is.
The technology is there. Move to europe they are way ahead of us in this regard. Other than that pay the prices and shut up. If you want to do your part to reduce demand you can drive less and become a localvore.
strange, i believe i have seen many attempts in gaining funding to develop hydrogen cars but bush had pulled out all the money. i guess bush is a liberal in your world, eh?
Don't worry, Nancy Pelosi's got us covered. Congress is gonna force public transit systems to lower fare prices. Crisis solved....................(I hope you can sense the sarcasm).
i guess we could just keep using oil ang gas for the rest of time. then when that runs out we're back to horse and bugy. is that what you want?
Well there's only a finite supply of oil. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to invest heavily in renewable sources now before all the oil dries up?
They forget to tell you the car is 90% plastic.....wonder how that is made.... but looks good with the Kerry sticker while impressing your friends with a soy latte
Yeah they are called remote control cars lol good luck finding one that can carry a human being.
No but they will tell you where to buy a bicycle or how to walk to work, even if it's 60 miles away.
Who says drilling for more oil will be a ';short term'; fix?
I drive a wind powered Pontiac.
I just got my water powered moped
A version of this question was just asked by someone else:

And the answer is the same';

Hmm. You ask some real good questions. Let me answer them for you.

You want a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle?

Honda is making them.

http://www.nysun.com/business/honda-roll…

You can buy them now. As in, today.

Want to fill it up/

Well there are several fill stations around the NYC metro area that I know of for sure.

Solar powered vehicles are stupid, and no one with any sense has ever thought you could ever have one.

Electric vehicles? You can also get them. Hybrids too. A Prius obviously uses gas, but it also uses plenty of electricity, and in case you weren't aware of it, generates its own electricity. IN terms of pure electric cars, you can get those too. And no,k they don't create more pollution than a regular car, for 2 reasons: One, the electricity is already being generated. 2) Not every electric plant runs on coal. I live by a hydro powered plant myself.

Also, whereas Oil may be running out any day now, we have Coal reserves to last us hundreds of thousands of years, so in that sense we're ok.

Methanol powered vehicles? I think youre confusing that with ethanol. Methane is what cows fart, and methanol would be the liquid form of that. However, if we could harness the power of 1000 cow arses, then we would be set for life with energy.

But ethanol could work too if people were smart about it. The way it is being touted now it is uselss and senseless, and it still takes more oil to deliver and make the ethanol than the ethaniol saves. However, Brazil's vehicles run on almost nothing but that. And they been doing it since the 70's. They are also much more smart about how to make it and deliver it. They also don't use corn to do it, wasting food crops in the process. They use sugar cane.

You could also convert your car to run on vegetable oil. A typical conversion costs about $4000, and based on current oil prices, you could easily make that back quickly in savings.

You can even do it yourself.

http://www.ehow.com/how_2004136_vegetabl…

So, as you can see, there are plenty of ways to avoid high gas prices. It just requires some a little work, and some ingenuity. And not for nothing, the average American has become to lazy to care. But the solutions are there, they are viable, but we would prefer to keep things the way they are, then have to re-tool parts of our lives.

Either way, you can complain, or jump on the train. But the only ignorant person is the one who is not aware that these alternatives are out there.
