I checked out a used car today, it was an ACURA TL 2004 3.2 LITER. The engine oil smelled like gas and supposedly it is bad. Can anyone tell me what will happen to the car if i dont fix it? How much will it cost to fix it? Is this normal? What exactly is wrong with the car? Please reply to this post, I am still deciding on whether to get this car. Thank you!2004 Acura TL engine oil smells like GAS, is that normal? How much will it be cost to be fixed?
I agree with mr if the car isn't yours don't buy it!!!!!! You don't know how long the owner has been driving the car like this or how much damage the gas in the oil has done to the engine internally. Especially don't buy this car if your getting it from a private seller or small mom and pop dealership because it will either be sold as is or you will be fighting to get them you help pay for repairs. Do your self a favor and go find a different car.2004 Acura TL engine oil smells like GAS, is that normal? How much will it be cost to be fixed?
Stay away from it. Gas in the engine oil screws you in two different ways: Not only do you have an internal leak somewhere to find, but the gas mixing with the oil ruins the lubrication properties of the oil. The engine is spinning with gas-thinned oil in the bearings, so all the bearing in the engine could be wearing abnormally.
From what I can only gather the only way possible for gas to get into the engine oil would be piston related (meaning the piston rings are all worn) on a 2004 this would be a ridiculous proposition and result in you not buying the car.
Still...I think you might be wrong, it might just be old oil...or you might be smelling a leak in the engine compartment at the fuel rail or the fuel pump.
dont get the car!!!!
it will cost you alot in the future.
if the oil smells like fuel , id bet that you have a leaking injector or two (or six) replace all 6 injectors to make sure that you have a good set tat does not leak, start the car, if it is really hard to start again like it is now,.....
