My car has been running rough at idle in drive once warmed up. I finally checked the spark plugs today, and I found oil in #3. I cleaned it up, and put it back in, and of course it burned oil when I turned it back on. Most likely the rings are shot, right? If so, how much does this cost?
Since it's 9 years old, should I get anything else checked out (i.e., compression test?) before deciding whether to put money into fixing this vs. buying a new car?2000 Plymouth Neon with 86k with oil in spark plug #3. How much will this cost to fix?
with 86 thousand on it i doubt the rings are shot in it you said oil in the hole, was it on the outside of the plug or actually in the hole where it goes, the valve cover will leak on those and cause oil to gather around the outside of the plug, but that doesn't mean it needs an engine or a rebuild done to it,to rebuild one of those the right way about 1200-1400 bucks to do all that's needed done to make the engine new again,if its a broke or worn ring it needs to be repaired,or you can get a rebuilt engine for around 1500 for it, your choice on this one,but that's almost more than the car is worth, good luck.2000 Plymouth Neon with 86k with oil in spark plug #3. Try upgrading tour oil from 5-w30 to 10-w30 or a heavy duty oil. It may not get the best milage right after the oil change but will tell you if maybe it is inferior oil. Dodge's dont care to much for Penzoil or Castrol
Hi: Sounds like rings, valves and seals are the way to go.
Your probably looking at about a grand to fix it.
