You don't mention the make, and year of the truck. This would

have helped tremendously.

Now, as a general rule, whenever a vehicle has water in the

oil it must not be run, and the oil immediately changed along

with the filter. To run any engine with water in the oil damages

the rod bearings, which in turn will score the crankshaft. If it

is driven very far this way the bearing will heat, ans seize to

the crankshaft, and then engine will lock up.

At this point changing the oil and filter probably will not be

any help. The engine should be torn down to repair. At the

least you can still repair it since it hasn't locked up yet. It

isn't worth the chance of damaging it more by running it.

Now, if the engine is opened up for repair, you should have

the crankshaft inspected by a machine shop before you

just get new bearings. Clean out the oil suction pump,

and since you have to remove the head, also take it to

the machine shop for inspection. Recondition whatever

may need it. Do the job properly and you can get many

miles with that engine. It might cost a bit more than just

buying a used engine of unknown quality, but it would be

much better to do unless you were just getting rid of the

truck soon.

At any rate, I would just do the job myself as to have a

shop do the work the cost would be too excessive unless

the truck has some special value as a rarity, classic, or

Well, hopefully you didn't pay very much for it. If it's rusted out underneath, the frame is in question, and with the apparent water in the oil which indicates major engine problems, you probably don't want to keep it.

Did you check it before you bought it, or discover all this after the fact? Unfortunately, used cars are sold as is, so you're stuck with it. You might have your mechanic take a look, but I'm afraid you are going to be making a trip to the crusher where you might get $200 out of it.
go get insurance on it and push it over a cliff and call it a loss lol. but seriously it sounds like major problems. i agree with the rest try to find a junk yard with a good motor for is and buy some extra body parts and cut out the rust and weld new peices in. i have done this on a 65 mustang, 64 dart and a 72 omega and with a little bondo you can make it look brand new
What year???? WHat engine??? fuel injected???? Carbureted??? NEED MORE INFO!!!! Remove both gas tanks and have them pro-fessionally cleaned and sealed to prevent future issues. Water in the oil might just be precipitation over time, if car sat a while. Drain oil pan, remove it, have it cleaned, re-install. Start using synthetic oil. NEED MORE INFO!!!
Wow Looks like you should have as these questions BEFORE buying this truck. Change the oil/filter first. Then do a full tuneup. Plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, disturber cap and rotor.
Replace your oil and filter first. You can damage your heads if you run your truck like that. Drain your fuel tanks and put new fuel in. Check the carb and fuel filters also.
change the head gaskets

take the gas tank out and flush it
Here's what you do.

Start off with an oil and filter change, and tune it up.

Run a compression check to make sure that no single cylinder is more than about 10% different than the rest of them.

Water in the oil could be one of a few different things. Cracked head, blown head gasket, cracked engine block to name a few. Don't drive it around until you are sure that it's okay, because with water in the oil you're looking at bearing damage, scored cylinder walls or total destruction of the engine.

I'm thinking that since it already has water in it and you drove it like that, check around for a salvage yard that has a good replacement engine for a few dollars instead of dumping a ton of money into this one.

For the body, get somebody that does that kind of work to take a look at it. Body parts aren't too hard to come by.

I was once given an 84 S-10 Sport cab pickup that was pretty much beat to a pulp, and I went to a local junk yard with a shopping list, spent about $50 for miscellaneous parts and $10 for the hood off an old land yacht. Carved pieces out of the hood and cut all the rust out of the truck, welded on hand made patch panels. Got pictures if you want to see them.

Good luck!
