Reuse Engine Oil after fixing the Leak?

Recently I found a leak around rear corner of the oil pan on driver's side. Three weeks ago I changed the oil and I suspect that I might have forgot removing the O-ring of the old filter before installing the new one. So there might be two O-rings that caused the leak. If not, it is probably a bad oil pan gasket. What do you think?

The oil (Castrol full synthetic) looks too good to throw away. My question is: can I reuse it after fixing the leak?

Thanks a bunch!Reuse Engine Oil after fixing the Leak?
no you can change the oil filter without draining the pan although you will drain a significant amount out so you might want to buy and extra quart to put in it anyway .....there is no way the o ring can seal if there is two of them on it ....it is designed for metal to metal contact not metal to rubber so i am suspecting it is the o ring ....i also could suspect that maybe depends sometimes on cars but you might loose a little oil pressure as well.....your oil pan gasket should not ever have to be replaced unless you bumped it pretty hard on the road or something unless you had to take the oil pan off then it is always necessary to buy a new gasket or put silicone gasket sealer around the old one if it has not been rippedReuse Engine Oil after fixing the Leak?
If there is an oil trail from the oil filter you could be right about the O ring, but I have to say it is rare for the O ring from the filter to stick the block. Maybe the filter is not snug enough? Remember to put a light coat of oil on the O ring before installing the new filter.

I would not reuse the oil if you are only catching what comes down out of the Oil Filter mount on the block as it will run down the engine and pick dirt. You will not need to drain the oil pan if you are only changing the filter - most of the oil will be in the pan below the filter.

Good Luck -
I would not reuse it, but I'm a bit anal about my vehicles. About the only way I would consider reusing it is to drain it into a new oil changing receptacble then strain it before it was poured back into the vehicle. Your worst nightmare would be tryiing to save $50. and have a foreign object get into your engine which could turn into a $1,000. + problem. If your into using synthetic oil your already giving it the best you can. Your choice. I'm sure you'll receive answers that difffer from mine, but your the one that has to make the final decision, and live with it.

Hope this helped,

Doug
if you only put the oil in 3 weeks no reason not to use it again done it many times and no you dont drain the oil pan to replace the filter try tightening the pan bolts maybe that will fix the leak
yes, its fine, as long as its clean,

you NEED to unscrew the drain plug, and drain it out, otherwise you're in for a shock. and yes, two Orings will cause major leakage.
Their is no reason you can't reuse your oil. especially if it was just replaced.

I have done it many times after a repair
yes it is fine to reuse the oil
