Why is a US President dealing with an oil cartel that fixes the prices & the volumes of petroleum they sell?

What is seriously wrong with this picture?

Bush urges OPEC to pump more oil By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent

Tue Jan 15, 6:26 PM ET

President Bush warned Tuesday that surging oil prices threaten the U.S. economy and urged OPEC nations to boost their output. His plea drew little sympathy from oil-rich Saudi Arabia, which said production levels appear normal.

Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also pressed Arab countries to do more to reach out to Israel and help achieve a Mideast peace agreement before the president's term runs out next January. Avoiding specific orders to Arab allies, Rice said the delicate question of diplomatic relations with Israel, the Arab world's historical enemy, was ';another matter and undoubtedly down the road.';

Cartels are not free trade organizations?Why is a US President dealing with an oil cartel that fixes the prices %26amp; the volumes of petroleum they sell?
He's trying to salvage his legacy before leaving the White House in 2009. A recession before leaving doesn't look good on a President. How embarrassing! A US President in the Middle East begging a Monarchy to lower the price of oil. Pathetic.Why is a US President dealing with an oil cartel that fixes the prices %26amp; the volumes of petroleum they sell?
Right you are! Report Abuse

Because he can't get most democrats and no few republicans to get out of the way to drill for more oil here and begin building more refineries.

The eco-nazis and their drooling sycophants in government and the press have made oil production in this country nearly impossible.
Because hes now aware the mess his country is in and cant do a thing about it hes really messed thing's up good
because we are not allowed to drill for oil in our country so we have to buy theirs...!

simple!
