Dear American Wardog,
Ummmm鈥?Heads up Mr.
NASA is the needed institution to solve the energy crunch.
Ask ANY 5th grade physics teacher, 99% of this planets energy came from the sun... ALL oil is is the dead remains of a green solar collector that sunlight fell on 50 million years ago.
The drawback to solo power... And the saving` grace of life on the planet is that there is an atmosphere between the sun and most collectors.
Sooo鈥?The solar collectors need to be moved ABOVE the atmosphere into geo-synchronous orbit [Like a communication satellite] and then use a microwave really [Like a communication satellite] to get ALL that energy through the atmosphere and down to the collector station鈥?convert it over to AC current鈥?Into the existing power grid鈥?And you end up in an electric car thumbing your nose at mid-east terrorist that want to shove a bomb into the commode the US sent for the new school, and blow the crap out a the 5 year old kids for not learning enough Koran, or strap on a belt full of dynamite and blow off there crotch on the way to collect 69 virgins鈥?All in the name of Osama-Bin-Hidden`
The problem with this idea is uninformed people that want to cut NASA鈥檚 budget to focus on alternative energy research.
Hugs,
PennyAnnLet the Arabs drink their oil? should the USA stop funding programs like NASA until we fix this problem first?
Its not that simple, removing funds from NASA means thousands of people will become unemployed as NASA could no longer pay its employees or fund its projects. The government has its own agenda, always has since the beginning of governments, everything is a business and functions for profit, same goes for governments. They look at it economically, there is no money to be made overseas at the moment, it was a long term investment so that eventually there will be resorts and vacation spots in Iraq, and Afghanistan was attacked just so there was a base so that Bush could attack from into Iraq, soon Iran might be attacked, and then we will see more resources deployed there. As the government sees it there is no problem, nobody attacking us yet and we have enough reserves of oil for the time being(50+ years and secret ones in Russia).Let the Arabs drink their oil? should the USA stop funding programs like NASA until we fix this problem first?
We should stop spending tax payer's money on NASA immediately. We are talking about billions which could be used to fix social security, medicare, drugs, schools, poverty, prisons, and on and on......... This could be a great country if we took care of those needed categories rather than sending junk up into space.
I, for once, agree; we will only get out of our dependency on Middle Eastern Oil until we start tapping our own resources, like ANWR, THe Gulf anf off the coast of Florida, plus widen the use of sugar-based Ethanol fuels.
Use geothermal power - the technology is already available, the lack of political will and the influence of petrochemical companies, not NASA, is to blame for the developed world's reliance on oil.
NASA's budget is actually pretty small, and not likely to be enough to develop new energy sources. The US is already investing a great deal in energy research. Sure, we could use more, but most of the programs funded by the government are pretty important to someone. Do we cut old people's pension checks? Stop helping poor kids get decent food? Eliminate research into cancer and AIDS? You see the problem.
Keep thinking about this. Maybe you'll be the one to come up with the great idea that really works!
Do you know that US takes only 10% of its oil consumption from the Arab world. US have big investments there. More over by controlling the oil in that area, you can control the economy in a lot of countries like China, India, Europe, Japan, etc., that's why they are there.
