Not sure exactly where the leak is, but was told this was mostly labor. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.Does $800-$1000 sound like a lot to pay to have an oil leak fixed in a 1997 Dodge Stratus? ?
sounds like a rear main seal if its mostly labor.rear main seal and oil change to go with it and shop supplies.rear main labor on 4cyl or 6cyl auto/7.1 hours, manual is 5.5hrs at whatever the shop rate is.Does $800-$1000 sound like a lot to pay to have an oil leak fixed in a 1997 Dodge Stratus? ?
Sounds right for a rear main seal leak. It is very labor intensive. The engine and transmission must be separated and in some cases the engine has to be lifted out of the vehicle.
Unfortunately, at $1000 you could probably buy another 1997 Stratus.
Hard to help if you can't even tell us where the leak is.
If its a valve cover gasket then yes, that is too high.
If it is a rear main seal then no, it isn't.
Find a cheaper garage!
I dont know the reason why your engine is leaking, probably $1000 its a honest price but i dont think is smart to spend so much for such a old car..
Thats the thing it depends were its at, as to what it will cost.
it's 50% of that car worth... IMHO it's too much!
