What do you think about the oil/gas prices? how do u think it can be fixed?

WELL THERES NOTHING MUCH WE CAN DO BUT I WONDER IF WE HAD THOSE SOLAR POWERED , BATTERY OR ELECTRIC CARS, HYDROGEN FUELED VEHICLES , NOW IS THE TIME TO SELL THEM WHY HAVE THESE FUELED POLLUTION MAKING CARS RATHER THAN THOSE ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY AUTOMOBILES.What do you think about the oil/gas prices? how do u think it can be fixed?
Staying away from the politics of this as much as I can:

Current oil prices have very little to do with supply and demand of oil itself IMO. The increased price we're paying for gas and oil has a lot more to do with the US economy being in the crapper in relation to the rest of the world's - meaning that the US dollar is worth less than it used to be in the world market. Since oil must currently be purchased from OPEC in dollar currency, it is taking us (and to an extent everyone else) more dollars to buy roughly the same amount of oil that we have bought over the last 5 years.

To ';fix'; the problem, the first thing we need is leadership that has the knowledge and ';skill'; to do whatever it takes to pick up our sagging economy as a whole to make our dollar stronger in the world market. Beyond that it might help if we try to use less gas/oil as a society, but IMO why would oil companies EVER lower the price of gasoline back down below ~$3/gal again when they now KNOW we'll pay at least $3/gal for it since almost no one stopped driving or lowered their oil usage when gas went up to $3/gal?What do you think about the oil/gas prices? how do u think it can be fixed?
The market has been manipulated and the oil is being bought up by greedy little college graduates just like the housing market money was. It will hit a brick wall and the price will plummet eventually. Meanwhile, these greedy pigs can't see the wall coming, yet they are only interested in today while the world gets body slammed into the poor house and industry comes to a near halt. We are well on the way to a genuine crisis and no one seems to care enough to stop it. We were warned.
Get a bike for short trips, Use public transportation where possible, Avoid pointless trips in the car, Do not speed(a car runs most efficient at 65mph and any faster will decrease performance), Make sure your tires have the correct amount of pressure in them (this will increase mileage), Get an oil change (this will increase mileage), Doing these steps will save a lot of money on gas.
I think that the oil and gas prices are terrible, but the market not Bush control them as long as there are investors or better yet betters on he market then the price is what it is some people bet they will go up and just as many bet that they will go down that is how markets work.
there is nothing we can do about the oil prices. it is controlled by OPEC. but we can do something in our own level... that is try saving gas: carpooling, lite acceleration, planned trips, etc...
I think the rise in oil/gas is rediculous and Bush needs to be assasinated for his inability to stop it.

yes im serious
sucks and no theres not much anyone can do but dont buy gas.. and you know thats not going to happen... but doing anything to save a gallon would help some

1995 ford bronco leaking oil between transmission and motor. what can it be? how can it be fixed? thanx?

Common.

Most probably its the rear main seal of the motor.

Big job to fix, time wise. You need to split the box from the motor, and depending if its a rope seal, or a rubber seal, depends on what else you need to do.

If its a rope seal, you need to pull the crank out, as there is a pin that holds the seal in place, and you cant install the seal without pulling the crank.

If its a rubber seal, you can remove and instal the new seal with the motor in place,

Either pretend its not there, top up your oil and throw a stop leak into the motor, or do the job.1995 ford bronco leaking oil between transmission and motor. what can it be? how can it be fixed? thanx?
If oil is leaking between the engine and transmission most commonly it is the rear main seal. This seal is the very last crankshaft main bearing seal and is common to leak on any type of vehicle after extended mileage.

The only way to fix the rear main seal on a Bronco is to remove the transmission (which also requires removing exhaust components, the starter and a crossmember). The task of removing the transmission is not very difficult when you have the right tools and have access to a lift. Otherwise, it can get tricky when you are doing it in your driveway, but doable nonetheless.

If your Bronco is 5.0 or 5.8 the job is relatively the same. The only difference is going to be weather or not you have an automatic trans or a stick. If its an auto, just remember to remove the flywheel-to-torque converter nuts and keep the torque converter in the transmission. This will allow for easier installation after it is removed and you won't have to re-index the torque converter before you put it back in.

If after all this it sounds like a job you want to take on, then just be sure not to damage the area where the seal sets. Any burs, debris or irregularites in the metal will negate the entire job and you will be doing it again because it WILL leak. Be careful when removing the old seal not damge the crank or again, like I said, you will be doing the job again.

I hope you can fix the leak, good luck!1995 ford bronco leaking oil between transmission and motor. what can it be? how can it be fixed? thanx?
Transmission fluid or Engine oil? Red or Brown? If it's red, then perhaps the front pump seal or input shaft seal on the trans. If it's brown then I would suspect the engine rear main seal. Any of those seals are pretty pricey to replace-maybe a bottle of sealer instead. Good Luck
If it's motor oil it's the rear engine seal or possible the oil pan. If it's transmission fluid it's probably the torque converter seal or the transmission seal. All are a pretty expensive fix.
It is a rear main seal that is leaking. It can be found at any auto retail shop. The one for that truck ranges from $10 - $26 dollars.
I believe theres a seal between the two and it sounds like its the problem. The seal is not expensive, but the labour is.
its the seal of the oil pan or the crank shaft about the same... tough to fix sometimes.... and best if had done at a shop
rear main seal , drop trans and replace seal.

Since OPEC fixes floor prices for crude oils they sell us,why don't we fix prices for the goods we sell them?

We sell or provide them foods, cars, weapons, construction machinery, places to party without prudishness, booze%26amp; entertainment outside their strict islamic fiefdoms and traditions, all the luxuries of modern society, and a military defense that keeps the sheiks on top to boot --everything but the crude oils which they already have in abundance and love to export under short term contracts. And we do this all gladly even though we and our GOVERNMENT and our OIL COMPANIES know that they, the OPEC Cartel of state-owned National Oil Companies, are fixing the prices of our petroleum products which we refine their crude oils purchased at non-free market determined FIXED PRICES.

file TWH 08032006Since OPEC fixes floor prices for crude oils they sell us,why don't we fix prices for the goods we sell them?
Nice point. knowing they were chowing down on $50/pound chicken would make paying $3/gallon for gas more palatable.Since OPEC fixes floor prices for crude oils they sell us,why don't we fix prices for the goods we sell them?
Because the UN would cry foul. You just have to face facts that the rest of the world hates us because we are free.
we could, but the fact is they don't fix the price, so much as it is bid for.......ad China needs more oil now, so the price goes up....and with the wars, the fact that oil may turn up to be a precious commodity, the bidding goes higher.....plus, it takes all 8 countries....I think it is 8.....to settle on the minimum price.....anywa, it is not as easy as saying....okay, we will charge 78 dollars for it today.....there is much more involved.....

Hole above oil pan....can it be fixed?

Ok, on Friday I was traveling down I-44 and I lost oil pressure, I pulled over and discovered that I had oil leaking all over the road. I had it towed back to my house, where I discovered this hole. It's not in the oil pan, but right above it. You can view a picture of it via the link below. Can it be fixed?

Picture Link:

http://www.lacledeforum.com/forums/attac鈥?/a>Hole above oil pan....can it be fixed?
Interesting situation, I've only seen something like this one other time in my career as a shop owner. In short...sure, it can be fixed, anything can be fixed. The real question is whether it's going to be worth it in the long run.

It's not something you can slap some JB Weld over and hope for the best, although I'm sure many have tried and failed. The only correct way to go about repairing the block is going to be to remove the engine. At very least drop the pan but a true reliable fix would require pulling the block...if anyone tells you different they're full of *#%26amp;$.

Once the engine is pulled the cause of the hole has to be determined, it's possible but VERY unlikely that something came up off the road and caused the damage. It's more likely that something broke (possibly an oil pump gear) and smashed through the block from the inside. The damage most likely goes way beyond what you can see, this of course can only be determined by pulling the engine and doing an inspection.

If you're lucky and the only damage is the hole a machine shop can repair it. Most likely however the hole is the least of your problems, if a pump gear came loose, etc there's a good chance it caused internal damage. The loss of oil pressure and loss of oil probably caused a good deal of damage as well...when you lost oil pressure the valves, bearings, etc all stopped receiving the lubrication needed, and considering you were on the highway there's a high chance you've got rod bearing damage at very least.

With that said you need to decide how much it's worth...if the car has over 100k miles and is several years old it's probably not going to be worth the cost of repair. You could be looking at a price tag well into the $3500 range, possibly more.

If you're unsure then find someone willing to just patch the hole, they'll most likely drop the pan, patch the hole, and hope for the best. You may get lucky and the problem could be fixed for a few hundred bucks.

In all of my years of service I've never seen anything like this that didn't turn out for the worse when trying to cut corners. So...get a cheap fix done, fill her up with oil and hope, get the motor pulled, inspected, and repaired properly, buy a salvage block if necessary, or scrap the car.

Without actually seeing the car in person it's impossible for me to give you a precise diagnosis. A real time mechanic should be able to give you your options fairly quickly....if they tell you it's going to take a few days just to diagnose the cause you're most likely being taken for a ride. Pulling the pan and inspecting the rod caps, etc will give a wealth of knowledge.

Hope this helps!Hole above oil pan....can it be fixed?
Patching the hole is the simple part of your problem. Looking at the picture I see a broken connecting rod. You will have to remove the engine, disassemble and find out what happened and how extensive the damage is. It will likely cost as much to repair it as replace it.
that,s on the block. this is just a guess and i don,t know if it will work or not but get a piece of flat iron and see if someone can weld it over the hole.
Yes it can simply order a good low mile used engine from LKQonline.com and install it. I'm sure you heard a small clatter

type noise when it started leaking oil. That my friend is an aerated

Bock.
WOW, that is a problem. No easy fix. Your best bet would be to get a junk yard motor with low miles if possible. That block is shot.
You'll need to replace the motor
your kidding right??LOL..you need a new motor...no repair none..no way..no how,,,

Would getting oil changed, and alignment (headlights fixed also) result in CHECK ENG. LIGHT coming on? ?

I am almost 50-60 miles out of getting my car worked on. I had an alignment done, my oil changed, and I believe that they tried to wash off part of my engine to see where an oil leak was coming from. The shop is supposed to be checkign the oil leak this weekend, when they do my breaks.......

So 50-60 miles running, out of the shop, (Got it back late Sat. afternoon, and monday night the check engine light came on)....... What could this be? could anything the shop did, make that have come on? Or is there yet soemthing ELSE wrong with my car that should get fixed?Would getting oil changed, and alignment (headlights fixed also) result in CHECK ENG. LIGHT coming on? ?
Have them scan for codes before you do the other work. The sooner the better.Would getting oil changed, and alignment (headlights fixed also) result in CHECK ENG. LIGHT coming on? ?
first chech at the drain plug of the engine and see whether there is any lekage or not , secondly chech for the correct positioning of the engine oil filter and also check for the pressure of the oil inside the engine.

finally chech the compression inside the engine cylinder.

Trans oil mixing with antifreeze, until this problem is fixed , can i drive the car , 96 maxima?

car needs a radiator , trans oil mixing with antifreeze, is it safe to drive the car until i change the radiator and when i do , do i need to change trans fluid and flush engine?Trans oil mixing with antifreeze, until this problem is fixed , can i drive the car , 96 maxima?
How are you getting transmission oil in your radiator?Trans oil mixing with antifreeze, until this problem is fixed , can i drive the car , 96 maxima?
Do not drive this car until the radatior is replaced and as I said before expect to be walking soon. the cooling system does not like antifreeze and the transmission does not like coolant. After market radatiors cost only 175 dollars and a person with mimium tools can replace it. A new transmission costs $3,000 installed.
The more you drive the more damage it does. If you go to far you may need trans work at that can be expensive. I would flush the engine and do a trans service when you change the radiator.
Any vehicle with this problem should be parked immediately- unless your goal is to fry engine%26amp;transmission. You will have to flush both tranny%26amp;engine completely after repairs. I would also trace each line %26amp; hose for integrity.
If your radiator is ok otherwise go to a radiator shop and have it repaired, no need for a complete radiator.
Absolutely. When all the transmission fluid is in the radiator and you are stuck in the middle of traffic, call me for the tow.

Seriously, of course not. If transmission fluid is getting in the radiator, antifreeze is also getting in the transmission, and they aren't designed to run on water. Now perhaps all you need is a radiator. Keep driving and you will need a very expensive transmission also.
I would'nt, all you hoses will turn to swelled mush.
    No
Well let's think here for a minute. hm..if you have transmission oil mixing into your antifreeze, it goes to figure that you have antifreeze in your transmission. need I say more?
New radiators are less than $200 + labor. Get it replaced NOW!!
I would advise against driving it. The coolant will contaminate the transmission bearings/clutches/solenoids, etc. The lines going from the trans to the radiator are low pressure return lines so when the engine heats up and the coolant system builds pressure, it will push the coolant into the transmissions cooling system and into the transmission. Not the best of things to happen.

Why haven't neither Obama or Hilary gone after the oil refineries for price fixing . Demand is down price up

I live in city north of Detroit. This am I talked with a friend who happens to deliver fuel.He and other drivers are going home early because the high prices at the pump have have slowed down sales, but he says that refineries in turn also slow down their refining process to create a shortage .Less gas available keeps the price up. also the buying and selling on the commodities market keeps the prices up.This to me smells of price fixing and needs to be investigated.Higher prices at our stores are a result of this situation. But my friend who also keep abreast of of all the election coverage said to me';but you won't see Hilary or Obama go after any oil companies because they receive donations from them? The people are speaking at the pump and have done a good job today but we need more encouragement on what we can do to help ourselves .I am 78 years old and lived during World war 11 and I remember how loyal people were then.We can be loyal again if only leaders could be truthful To usWhy haven't neither Obama or Hilary gone after the oil refineries for price fixing . Demand is down price up
We should be drilling our own oil. If we drill and supply our own oil, we aren't paying other countries to send it here. Our refineries would be flooded and jobs would abound. The left has attacked oil as if it were an enemy. Oil is good. It's is a cheap and relatively clean way to power America. The Sierra club is dictating environmental policy and people eat it up. Why can't we drill in a place that's in darkness for months at a time...a place that was set aside for oil production. Why can't the Alaskan people get the resource and the jobs they were promised by Congress? Produce our own and the cost goes down and the dollar goes up and jobs come back. Why haven't neither Obama or Hilary gone after the oil refineries for price fixing . Demand is down price up
Good question .. Why did Congress turn down a bill to rebuild our refineries ? because it came from Bush. Also it not just our oil that is make gas go up it is our refineries and the environment movement at this time they are 127 difference kind of fuel and our refineries are 30 year old they can't keep up with the demand..
If we have more refineries, there will be more competition and lower price. As of now, the few refineries can pretty much control their own destiny by ';adjusting'; supply. We need environmentalist and politicians to get off our oil industry's back so they can invest in e/p and refineries without worrying about getting beat up over the head.
';Go after';as in how. Do you think they should take up arms against the refineries? No candidate takes money directly from oil companies. This is illegal and has been illegal for about thirty years now. The refineries do not set the price of oil and they are not fixing the price.
What is that you expect Hillary and Obama do? Neither have been elected to the office of the President yet. If there is price fixing going on, it would be up to congress and the senate to investigate the allegations, which I believe they are presently doing.
    I would ask ';Why hasn't Dubbya done so?';

Isn't he the current President and have you asked yourself this?
It is being investigated by congress.

But Hillary, Obama and McCain do not receive donations from oil companies......its against the law.

Its not that we need leaders who are truthful, we need a populace that holds them accountable and remains vigilant in doing so. We created government in an effort maintain order in a civilized society, that includes trying to stop crime and also promote the general welfare....PROMOTE. That means, it is our governments duty to make sure people are not engaging in activities that unfairly and intentionally manipulate the price and supply of neccessary goods, like oil.
Buddy. Do you think we need to legalize YOU and the rich? The pollies are ADA.gov T-II bait. Download the form, back it with a 28 U.S.C. 2254 or 2255 habeas motion, in USDC. Then hammer away at litigation. You can win, only if you start up pro se and make yourself into a respected material witness.

US linear anti-socialism is collapsing, like Tinky-Winky's thighs, when he keeps running too darn autisic.

A US, British, Israeli, and Vatican-based Empire is evident, which refused to legalize pot, even to secure the US borders or to relieve the despicable drug-gang and drug-cop symbiosis, so these are always staging deadly traffic-jams, anti-socialist-loggerhead freakshows, while oppressing the world, by asserting standing armies, from a vast pirate complex, in North America.

Why ELSE would we get to tax day, and the Chosin few aren't remembered, well enough. Uh, look around. The schools and ALL SERVICE DISTRICTS sucked in illegal energy-related inflation, which the President edits, from his mythical GDP. So why must we pay for assembly at baby-sitting pest-holes, mistakenly called campuses, to hostage the students, into at best, a pregnancy happened, that day?

They sucked in illegal costs, since 2001, and if the cliques, actually street gangs harass any cost-passing targets, see 'ASIANS,' from 'over there,' well OOPS, VTI turkey shoot.

I hope you are sweet, to people who are really not that happy to be with you, getting bogus media conditioning, in packs, while the flies among them start up files on the jam-ups. Ew.

PC campus, upcoming. See Java? Get a vehicle, for home study, and STAY WITH IT. Your campuses are corrupt. The ethical schools pass grads with illegal costs, to illegally interested DAs and A/G offices, but how about all those drug cops we have, and Secret Service Agents, for the Obama gets a job race-riot?

Don't be crazy, at the Asians you are burning, with your freaky, usual dragon, rioting its way down the busy streets, making them into desert. Any clue that Auburn Hills is less what it wants to be, and so is Obama, for letting Stevie, inc. rob you all blind, on NBA Sunday? It looks BAD.

When do you legalize pot, for what Henry Ford wanted it for? You don't think Henry just made great plastic and got mad at the public gangsters, including corporate Jews who suppressed the advantages of hemp, for oil, in the 20s and 30s? Of course, the local constabularies and garrisons were getting very Catholic, with city hall and county venues.

States were becoming a haven, for many of what today is a hideous spawn of anti-administration, which is enabled to bizarre obstruction, in collusion with print and broadcast media. But now, states may find themselves deeply beset, by their own, historic, reaching restrictions, against the drug abusing whores and pimps and whores or worse, which pimp themselves, which cranks all Americans have become.

Water leaking into the oil - can it be fixed?

We bought an '89 Bayliner Cruiser with a GM 3.0Litre OMC engine in it.

The owner told us it only needed minor repair (of course a complete ripoff!). We wound up having to purchase a used engine block because the one in the boat was broken beyond repair. My boyfriend (who's an auto mechanic and quite good with engines) took everything apart and put it back together beautifully.

We installed the engine into the boat and when turned on briefly, it purred like a kitten. Now here's where the problem comes:

When we hooked up a garden hose to the motor to get the water cooling system running, the oil mixed with the water and acquired that unhappy milkshake consistency within all of ten seconds of running time.

When we bought the used block, by boyfriend realized that somebody must have run it in salt water and not rinsed it out properly - the cooling channels were rusted like crazy.

He is now convinced that the salt water must have eaten at least a dime-sized hole somewhere into the channels, allowing the oil and water to mix so quickly. He's pretty much given up the engine as dead.

If there are other (fixable) causes for this water/oil mix that anybody knows about, please please let us know!

Any help (even advise on how that kind of leak may be fixed) would be much appreciated.

Water leaking into the oil - can it be fixed?
    Most changes are you brought the boat as is%26gt; And then changed the engine for another your choice%26gt; Your BF might of assembled this engine with a used rusty 1%26gt; And something leaks water I have found the intake bottom cracks and leaks water into the oil gallery%26gt;Many places it could intrude%26gt; wrong head gaskets%26gt; Heads off a car%26gt;Not marine%26gt; elbow exhaust leaks%26gt;If there are plugs in the heads i have seen the leak water in the oil%26gt; If it ran good before the water then pull valve covers and turn the water on and see if there leaking%26gt; It might not be as bad as it seems%26gt;

Since it fresh water and wasn't ran for a long time chances are nothing was hurt just find the intrusion and change the oil and run to get the water out before any damage incur%26gt; empty the oil and turn the water on look and listen for the water leak%26gt;Water leaking into the oil - can it be fixed?
Im sure you know that water in oil will spin bearings and other nasty things. I wouldnt chance it with and off the shelf voodoo type repair product. Unless you can see a hole and weld it, your boyfriends correct and you need to purchase a block thats in good condition and keeps water and oil where their supposed to be.

You might have a leaking headgasket. Just a thought. However if this waa a salt water block it may be wrecked. This is probably going to ruin the sport for you and that is too bad. Sue the S.O.B. that misrepresented the unit to you if you can. Look at the bill of sale.
I think you will have to get yet another Block, and have it pressure

tested before rebuilding the engine,or for less work try to get a

    reconditioned engine with warentee
No, your boyfriend has got it.

Go back at the guy who sold you the boat.

You will most likely have to sue him.

Unethical people make me absolutely crazy.

This type of crap ruins our sport.
mite be the lower unit seal leaking if not have block pressure tested if its that rusty it sounds bad
Truenorth gave the right answer...go back to the person who sold you the boat and either tell him you want the money back or you'll take him to court. The kicker here though is how was the Bill of Sale worded? Hopefully there is nothing in it saying ';as is.'; If not then your b/f should have the grounds to take him to court to either recover the cost of replacing everything that needs to be replaced or getting the money spent on the boat returned to him.

Sorry to hear that this happened and realize it's a nightmare.

Is a new york state landlord obligated to replace/fix a broken oil burner?

say an old oil burner kicked the bucket a month into the lease, would the landlord need to replace it or is it the tenant's responsibility? if it is the landlord's responsibility, is the tenant protected from any clauses in the lease saying otherwise (in other words, does the law void any section of a lease contradicting the tenant's rights)? thanks for your help.Is a new york state landlord obligated to replace/fix a broken oil burner?
If the unit provides heat or hot water, then yes, it has to be operable. You mentioned replaced in your question, first, there should be someone to condemn it. None of this is tenant responsibility. Is a new york state landlord obligated to replace/fix a broken oil burner?

    Fixed blade knife need oil?

since there is no joints or moving parts is it necessary? and if so what are some options for an oil?

    thanks much,

    codyFixed blade knife need oil?
If it's made of stainless steel, then no.....no oil is necessary on it.

It doesn't hurt to wipe some light weight oil on a carbon steel blade to protect it from rust.

Any gun oil will protect a knife's blade as well.

    ==============

Using the oil you already have for your firearm on your knife is the logical thing to do. Scent from the oil on your blade is moot because your rifle or shotgun that you'll have with you will have the same oil on it or in it also.

Either way....you don't need a ton of oil on it to protect it. A very light coat is all that's required.

Make sense?Fixed blade knife need oil?
I have a very expensive, hunting knife made with D2 steel with a matte, low reflection finish, and the mfg'r. recommends that you use ';food-grade'; silicone to protect the steel. Your other option is mineral oil as it's a protectant that doesn't go bad, edible, and does a good job of protecting. With any knife, you'll have to put oil on after/before each use.

Remember that stainless steel is not perfect and it will still rust over time or if it's not dried or looked after properly. I've seen a few fillet knives that were rusty not to mention my crappy Leatherman Wave II.
yes if the blade is not stainless, as far as oils go I would not spend money on a pricey gun oil but just use WD-40 or 3in-One oil. the knife when oiled will be more resistant to the elements. If it is your hunting knife do not oil, the sent of oil will carry for 100's of YD's. if normal knife you have for defense or around the house use then slap some WD on it with a cloth let sit for 3-5 minutes then lightly wipe off.

That would depend on what the blade is made of.

We only own high carbon steel blades.

You look at them wrong, and they will rust.

I use only clove mixed with mineral oil

Any blade less, isn't worth owning

Is there really a fixed supply of oil?

(at any point that I say something incorrect, feel free to point it out to me) There is enough oil right now, somewhere in the Earth, to last for millenia. Correct? Therefore, what really makes the oil supply seem fixed, is that the price being charged now for oil is not high enough to cover the cost of extracting and shipping the oil from the earth to other places. So, if there is enough oil to last for decades in the Earth, over those decades, would more oil not be created beneath the Earth surface for us to draw out again many hundreds of thousands of years down the line? Would the supply not constantly change because of more oil being vreated over that time? I know this is crazy, because we probably wont even last hundreds of thousands of years, but my point is that I need to hear your opinions on this to answer my homeowork question properly. I was given this theory from a person, and now I'm not sure weather I buy it completely or not. Thankyou, and please consider this acrefully. It takes a moment to settle in.Is there really a fixed supply of oil?
The simple answer is ';no.'; The Earth is digesting the biomass from thousands of years ago and producing more oil. As long as there is life on Earth, oil will be naturally made by the Earth. The catch is, it takes thousands of years to synthesize and conditions need to be perfect. Mankind will never extract all of the oil on the planet, we will just get to the point where the supply can no longer meet demand. This video will help answer your oil question.

While there is life on earth...

OK. However, very specific geologic processes are involved with trapping biomass in the formations, which are not present in human history. So there is no evidence to support the conclusion given that oil will be produced in future. Sorry, no proof for your statement. Report Abuse

I once worked for an oil company and know about oil reserves. There is a 200 year supply of oil in known reserves at current rates of use. There is a 2500 year supply of natural gas. There is more oil in the rocks (oil shale) in Colorado and Utah than in the entire Middle East.Any shortages or spikes in prices is manipulated by market forces and is the result of pure greed. There is enough oil and natural gas for us to have very inexpensive fuel.
No, your very first statement is wrong. There is not enough oil on the entire earth to last for millennia. There are in total about 2.8 trillion barrels of oil in the world still in the ground, and we use 85,000,000 barrels of oil a day. Do the math - that's about 20 years left, if we don't increase our usage.

Oil is not created by a geological process. It's created by biological processes that take millions of years, and we're using it so fast that the natural replenishment can't possibly keep up.
More oil is not going to be ';created.'; It's a finite amount. Unless you're willing to wait another million years or so.

At the end of 2008, world proven crude oil reserves stood at 1,295,085,000,000 barrels, of which 1,027,085,000,000 barrels, or 79.3 per cent, was in OPEC Member Countries.

As of 2005, eighty-four million barrels of oil are consumed in the world each day, a quarter of which is consumed by the U.S.

And I'll let you do the math.
you are so sexy whenr you type sense
We have only been using petroleum in any appreciative scale for less than 100 years.

We have already used more of it than is left, and our need for it grows every day. It has taken 100 million years to produce that. What is left isn't even in the hundreds of years worth at our present pace of consumption and growth... it's less than a century's worth. And that's not long.

Google or youtube ';Peak Oil'; to find out the situation.

China is growing, GDP-wise, at a pace that we cannot begin to comprehend; as is their need for oil.

We do need to begin building our alternatives NOW.

But; that said; cap %26amp; tax STILL sucks.
First, the oil companies explore, drill, transport and refine the resource. But since oil was first needed for industrial use, over half of the supplies have burned or become economically unrecoverable .

Second, it is this combustion and exhaust which is driving the climate changes, rising seas, melting ice. The oil as a natural resource is very old, it is not a process of decades, but millennia. Oil is a result of organic material like animals plants algae and forests, which have been buried in sediments and the volatile components trapped by impermeable layers of usually sedimentary rock. These deposits of oil are often thousands of feet below the present surface. The scale of time to bury a surface layer to a mile deep is calculable. It is on the order of hundred of thousands of years to millions of years. These resources once used are irreplaceable.
    1. Since the entire world is dependent on fossil fuels (Petroleum, coal and natural gas). Since China and India, the world's most populous countries, are using more and more as they industrialize. Since no more fossil fuels are being created because the populations of plants and animals and the environmental conditions that existed millions of years ago don't exist anymore. Since the world's human population is exploding and creating more demand for fossil fuels.

    2. We'd better find alternatives. It's best to develop and begin implimenting an alternative energy policy before we need it. There will be problems to work out. Most importantly, what we create today will be the foundation for a technology that can be improved on over the years. If we don't start a program now that can be improved on, when fossil fuels begin to disappear and we most need alternative forms of energy, we'll just be taking our baby steps with a new technology. This is not a good place to be.

Help fixing a major oil leak.?

I have a Toyota Matrix 2005 auto. Recently my car is having a major oil leak. Oil level full comes to very low in about 4-5 days. I tried to put paper under car to spot the leak. But spots were on many places. I started the car and scroled under the car and found out that there is

a major leak just over the oil filter where a electric wire connects to the housing of oil filter. I was wondering that area should not have oil because it is a electric cable connection. But it starts dripping as soon car starts. I unplug the cable connection from that point and saw that there is a female electric plug there for electric connection. Its made of plastic. Can someone tell me what could be the problem. Why oil is leaking from that point as there should be no oil there as that is not a oil pipe. What could be bad. Oil filter was changed last week by professional place and they said that your car has no oil and it might be leaking from drain plug. But i checked throughly drain plug does not leak.Help fixing a major oil leak.?
Sounds like an electronic oil pressure sending unit that might be cracked or loose. It will need to be changed or plug it off!Help fixing a major oil leak.?
as above stated, sounds like the oil pressure sending unit. could be loose or cracked. not an expensive part. see if it is loose, if so snug it up, if not, replace it with a new one.

Does any one have a used 2 disc video of The Carder Method of oil painting. I'm on fixed income can buy used.?

I see it's pretty expensive new. I look all over the net for used videos at amazon and ebay, but I couldn't find anything. It must be pretty new so you may have to wait a while before you can find a used set. The method looks interesting though. Good luck.

  • Oil prices...who is fixing the rate ?

This is being done mainly by speculators and others who are manipulating the stock price. There are many politicians in on this (Sen. Phil Gramm among many) who are making a windfall while workers are losing jobs and trying to pay for food. Don't look for Congress or the President to do anything - many of them are bought off. There is no shortage.

This happened back in the 70's. We had long gas lines and rising prices. No one knew why. Nixon was going to have an investigation, but suddenly that Watergate mess came out and Nixon was gone. If Truman was president, he would have some people locked up for this. Reagan would stop this foolishness too.Oil prices...who is fixing the rate ?
';Investors'; (read speculators). Used to be you could only buy so many futures, this limited speculation, some years ago they passed a bill (sponsored in part by Phill Gramm and other criminals) that changed that therefore it's now more profitable to buy and sell energy than it is to produce it.Oil prices...who is fixing the rate ?
Nobody is fixing it. It is a variable like the price of any other commodity. Who is fixing the price of copper or corn?

The brake pads are contaminated. You'll probably have to replace them, but try this first...

Remove the pads and SOAK them in denatured (not isopropyl) alcohol for about an hour, then allow to dry overnight. Clean the disc with denatured alcohol too. Reassemble and test. If this didn't do it, new pads are in order.

EDIT: YIPES! Do NOT use carburetor or brake cleaner... they will attack the plastic parts!Need help fixing my disc brake on my mongoose bike got rem-oil on it?
If you have any carburetor cleaner (or similar cleaner, maybe even rubbing alcohol) spray that on it. It should remove the oily film.
Try degreaser. If your rotor is cross drilled or slotted make sure to clean those too.
    change the padss?

volvo 850I have a oil leak in my car and can't afford to get it fixed right away whats are the dangers ??
Most people think that it won't hurt to have an oil leak.

usually it won't hurt the engine if you make sure that it's full, but it will damage the rubber parts that it get on (softens it).But the REAL DANGER IS FIRE, the engine and exhaust gets hot and it could start the oil on fire. specially at high way speeds when there's a lot of air blow on a very hot exhaust and the oil blow back right into the exhaust system. You could keep washing the oil off your engine and carry a fire ext. in your car.

ASE Master techI have a oil leak in my car and can't afford to get it fixed right away whats are the dangers ??
No danger as long as it is an external leak (meaning it drips onto the ground) and it isn't gushing. You just need to make sure you keep checking your oil and filling it as needed until you can get it fixed.
just keep checking your fluid level. i had a friend who used to put 1-2 quarts in his junker everyday and that thing went forever. for all you know, maybe it's just a little gasket that needs replaced like on the plug for the oil. i had that problem myself.
    Well.

Why is a US President dealing with an oil cartel that fixes the prices & the volumes of petroleum they sell?

What is seriously wrong with this picture?

Bush urges OPEC to pump more oil By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent

Tue Jan 15, 6:26 PM ET

President Bush warned Tuesday that surging oil prices threaten the U.S. economy and urged OPEC nations to boost their output. His plea drew little sympathy from oil-rich Saudi Arabia, which said production levels appear normal.

    Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also pressed Arab countries to do more to reach out to Israel and help achieve a Mideast peace agreement before the president's term runs out next January. Avoiding specific orders to Arab allies, Rice said the delicate question of diplomatic relations with Israel, the Arab world's historical enemy, was ';another matter and undoubtedly down the road.';

He's trying to salvage his legacy before leaving the White House in 2009. A recession before leaving doesn't look good on a President. How embarrassing! Because he can't get most democrats and no few republicans to get out of the way to drill for more oil here and begin building more refineries.

My 97 Mustang overheated and now has water in the oil, does that mean a new engine or can this be fixed?

So I was driving on the hwy when my 97 mustang v6 overheated ,stalled, and wouldnt start back up we had it towed home and by that time it had cooled and did restart. however the water from the radiator is going in to the oil pan, we have drained the oil and water out, and now the oil plug leaks and the oil leaks out. so other than getting a new oil plug, should this engine be rebuilt, just get a new (used) one, or are there some parts that can be replaced to fix it? I have not drove it sense this happend several months ago, for fear of doing more damage.

thank youMy 97 Mustang overheated and now has water in the oil, does that mean a new engine or can this be fixed?
Do not drive your Stang, you most likely have an intake gasket, or head gasket puking the glycol (antifreeze) internally. My suggestion to you would be to tow the vehichle to your local shop , and spend 60-70 bucks and get a proffesional diagnoses. If they find either the intake or head gaskets puking you will have to take of the plenum, remove the intake and possibly the head and take them to the local machine shop and get it checked for cracks or warping. If they are warped they can be machined, if it or they are cracked buy new ones. This is not a job for a novice. your Mustang deserves to have a pro work on it. In addition to the intake or and the head gasket being changed you will need to have the coolant flushed with an exchange or flush machine at least 2 times. If there is coolant in your oil then there is going to be oil in the coolant system also. , Change your plugs, wires, and you might as well change the cap and rotor while you are there, the plenum gasket, the distributer shaft o-rings and paper gasket should also be replaced, new t-stat and gasket, put it all back together get the oil changed add a quart of Lucas oil. drive the Stang about 500 miles and change the oil once again. This is not an inexpensive job to have done, expect to pay between $1000 to $1800 to get this job done right. Get it done the right way and you should not have the problem again as long as you flush and maintain your coolant system at regular svc times. As a service advisor with 12 years experiance I see this problem a couple of times a month. Hope this helps James H.My 97 Mustang overheated and now has water in the oil, does that mean a new engine or can this be fixed?
yes i would agree with James H years ago i had a buick v-8 drove it to work had to go out out to move move it started it upit puffed like a cigar shut it down pull the dipstick same thing water got into the oil cracked block gt. Report Abuse

Replace the nylon washer on the oil plug. (you dropped it somewhere)

Refill the engine oil, and change the filter. ($20).

Refill the cooling system, and drive the car around the block a few times.

If it runs OK, and doesn't make any funny noises, replace the head gaskets, and have the heads serviced. ($700)

If it runs like crap, and makes a bunch of noise, sell it for parts.

The cost of repairs will exceed the value of the car.
Pull the heads and check them. You either blew a head gasket or warped the heads.

Last pair of rebuilt heads I bought for a V 6 Ford was around $169.00 each so it will cost you around $ 338.00 + which you doing the work yourself; depending on the cost of the heads some run more than the others.
You've could of just blown the head gasket or worse warped or cracked the head if you have water in the oil. You head maybe be refinished if possible. Or it might need a new head all together. I can't say for sure because I can't inspect the vehicle.
    hmmmmmm

Replacing engine is the best solution but

Try to find what's the cause of overheating for example if it's the blocked radiator then your new engine also will be coocked soon if it's clogged thermostate or dodgy water pump then it's worth to change the engine.

I don't think you can use your old engine parts to your new(used) as it overheated.
Wow, what else could go wrong?

    .

It sounds like the engine bought the farm, so don't try fixing it.

    .

    Why?

    .

You overheated the engine for whatever reason, while on the highway at highway speeds.

That engine got really hot, and it seized up, and an engine stopping suddenly is finished.

Which is why you couldn't restart it, it was so hot the parts all expanded and got gooey inside.

The bearings and journals have been damaged beyond repair.

The cylinders are now out of round.

If the engine seized real quickly, the rods could be bent or twisted.

The heads are warped, maybe even cracked, though you might not see the cracks without a black light and some dye.

    .

Water in the oil? Even for 10-15 minutes water can do a lot of damage to an engine because water can't be compressed.

So if water gets into the oil pump it ruins the pump, hot water becomes steam and steam creates pressure which blows out seals and erodes metal.

    ,

Then theres the problem of loose bits of metal and scale and stuff now laying around. Who's climbing inside to clean it out?

Do you get the picture? It's a lame horse, so bite the bullet and bury it with honor. Trying to fix it will only result in more problems down the road.

    .

Check around for a used engine, or a ';long block'; and make sure you get a warranty in writing.

    .
You likely have a leaking head gasket like all the other posters say and indeed the water may cause the bearings to sieze. This will happen quite suddenly. This engine, even if repaired, will never be the same or a good chance it will not run right or the head gasket repair will fail again. I would be looking for a good low mile used engine. Or donate the car and get a new one.
your motor will need a rebuild sorry water in oil is bad news basically you have shot your piston rings for cost wise a second hand motor will work out to be cheaper than a rebuild in the long term you have to decided what you will do with the car sometimes you can buy a sick second hand motor and have to pay to have it removed and replaced
Sounds like you cracked a head. It is repairable at a cost. Avoid running you engine until it is fixed or it could lead to more serious damage, like spun bearings.
Possibly a blown head gasket/warped cracked head.

Hopefully, the lower end is still good, this is fixable, but costly.

Don't drive it till its fixed.
    No.

    maybe

This means that you warped the cylinder head, and coolant now leaks into the crankcase and mixed with the oil.

If you dont drive it, you won`t have to rebuild the WHOLE engine, but you DO need a rebuilt head.

    Welcome to ';Newer car'; world.
hi,,,, by now you are very sure the engine blew the head gasket..based on what everyone is saying.. and they are correct. but what you should also consider, is that the engine could also have lost compression. meaning, even if you have the head rebuilt, and a new head gasket, you are still dead in the water. engine will not run when hot.. it might stall when operating temperature is reached. I recommend a stock ring replacement also. just so you dont have to do the job twice. good luck. p.s. the engine block needs to be trued also, making sure the surface is flat for the new rebuilt head. if this is not done, engine will blow head gasket in no time.. a complete rebuilt engine is a sure fire, compared to a used new engine taking 50 50 chances....
don't chance it - buy a new one

  • Had water in engine oil on boat. fixed problem but still have traces of water?

I own a 2002 chapparel 196 ssi with a 5.0 volvo penta. last season I had the dreaded water in my engine oil problem. I took it to my mechanic and after compression checks that came out normal he discovered that I had a bad starter and that the engine was dieseling sucking water into the engine. we drained the engine and blew some water out through the plug holes. a few weeks later I figured it would be a good idea to drain the engine again. sure enough there was still small traces of water droplets in the lightly milky oil that was suspected. I just went to change the oil again and still small traces of water. I dont suspect water is still being sucked up because we changed the starter and water in the oil is less and less after each change. Also because the oil level never rises after changes indicating water entering the system is not present. So my question is...... Does anyone know how I can flush all traces of water out of the system without doing 5 or 6 more oil changes. thanks.Had water in engine oil on boat. fixed problem but still have traces of water?
If the amount is small as you indicate, I wouldn't worry to much about it. My real question is are the crankcase vent hoses connected properly..... Run the engine, but keep an eye on it. The heat of running will eventually take care of the problem. You might change the oil again in 20 hours. Good LuckHad water in engine oil on boat. fixed problem but still have traces of water?
You are stuck with the way you are doing it.

There is still a little water in the oil as it has collected on all the parts inside the engine. Until they vaporize and go out the vents and into the carb you are stuck with it.
You're doing the only practical thing other than tearing the engine down. Could check the breathers, keep an eye on the oil colour on the dip stick and just change the oil and filter every 20 or 30 hours as stated elsewhere.

Many people feel, that this oil crisis is being perpetuauted by traders, who brought down the currencies of SE ASIA in 1995 and caused the big crash of 1995.

Should the traders be asked to settle all the purchases by paying 100% cost up front instead of putting forward just 5 % or so as margin money ??

Please comment...Is crude oil price being fixed by speculators ?
    There is a combined problem.

    Speculation is an issue.

The self fulfilling prophecy of the Stock Market is another. Since people trade on rumour and speculation, hints of higher prices actually create higher prices because it creates a rush to by the supply.

The other issue however is that the world is using more and more oil. China and India are HUGE users and the US is no longer the biggest purchaser. This means that we also have to complete, where we were more protected as the biggest buyer previously.

I understand that it is popular to blame Bush, but the fact is, all countries are struggling with oil prices. In the UK there have been protests and similar calls for politicians to do something. But they are paying almost double what is being charged in the US.Is crude oil price being fixed by speculators ?
It the value of the dollar. Come on how hard is it to see that the dollars value is the major contributor to the prices of gas and oil. If you look at the price of crude in terms of amount of gold it takes to buy a barrel its been level.

    http://www.thedailygreen.com/environment鈥?/a>

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEsEvb1Ws鈥?/a>
    no,

the value of the U.S. Dollar is down and there is not enough oil supply for everybody, so with a lower dollar it costs less for China and India to buy the oil, and they buy it up and horde it.

the speculators are buying up the oil so other countries don't buy it all up
As their influence drives the prices up I would agree that they are driving up the prices and their profits at the expense of the American economy since gas prices are causing a ripple effect through the prices of goods and services. They should be closely regulated and subject to imprisonment for insider trading tactics.

My garage has a huge stain because my '02 Toyota RAV4 is leaking oil. Why is it leaking, how can it be fixed?

Fixing the stain can be done by using a simple floor degreaser. As for why your car is leaking it could be from any number of things. Loose drain plug or filter, worn oil seals or gaskets. You need to have someone actually look at it and see where the leak is fromMy garage has a huge stain because my '02 Toyota RAV4 is leaking oil. Why is it leaking, how can it be fixed?
it depends what,s leaking. it could be transmission oil, power steering fluid or anti-freeze.spread some kitty liter where you park.

I have a dodge stratus i started getting a little engine knock. could that be fixed with a thicker motor oil?

Depends on what you mean by engine knock. True engine knock is caused by detonation of fuel due to an overly advanced ignition timing. Most newer cars have a knock sensor which causes the computer to retard ignition timing which eliminates knock. Thicker oil will have no affect on this type of condition.

If, on the other hand, you are calling valve tapping ';knock';, then, a thicker oil will help quiet this. However, what really needs to be done is to have your valves adjusted.I have a dodge stratus i started getting a little engine knock. could that be fixed with a thicker motor oil?
Eddie is a little confused, there is two kinds of knock, Ignition or Mechanical and that can be anything from tappet to rods or pistoin slap and so on. its up to you to figure out what it is, Now as far as oil Chris is right, but Chrysler does not recommend that heavy of a oil, it can cause a lot of engine problems wear, damage and cavitation.

Now us ';old'; guys used gear oil in the crank case to throw a bandage on the problem till we could pull the engine and rebuild it, It worked on my 80 302 bronco for 6 months

    So good luck

Don't use the gear oil idea you'll ruin the engineI have a dodge stratus i started getting a little engine knock. could that be fixed with a thicker motor oil?
I bet your pistons are getting a bit of carbon build up on them, which is raising compression and causing the detonation or ';knock';. Try using a higher octane gasoline (91) before you make the mistake of pouring honey into your engine. Ill bet using a higher octane will fix ur problem
Well using a thicker oil can reduce the appearance of the knock but won't prevent the end result. Also, it will kill your fuel mileage. A 20w50, 30w or something along those lines can help, yes. But a different oil won't ';fix'; anything
some of the old school guys claim using something like a 10-40 or 15-40 will help, i personally couldnt tell you

Why is big oil not taken to task over their criminal price fixing activities?

Current high fuel costs are ENTIRELY due to big oil price fixing as there is a glut of crude oil world wide. Why is big oil not taken to task over their criminal price fixing activities?
That's not the reason at all. It's the demand that keeps going up. As long as that happens prices will go up also. Cut demand and the price will fall just like any item at the store. Live close to work and ride a bike if you really want to make a difference. Why is big oil not taken to task over their criminal price fixing activities?
They have a monopoly in the form of a cabal and that is always the problem with any monopoly, they dictate the terms and conditions.

After all, what else are you going to put in your tank to make your car run?

    Supply and demand my bum!

Is that why the price at the pump dropped to $1.70 per gallon two weeks before this last November election and returned to $2.40 per gallon the same week following the election, because the demand was so much lower at that time?

They intentionally make the economics of the process complicated and as nebulous as possible so that proving any collusion is next to impossible for anyone outside of the cabal but they are the ones that set the price at the pump and it doesn't need to be any more complicated than that.

If you are directing your outrage at ';Big Oil'; for the high price of fuel then it is being directed at the correct place.
Who would be taking them to task? The president, who is an oil man himself?

Congress, whose past re-election campaigns were funded by big oil?

The people, who are willing to pay the higher price because they were too dumb to see the trap they set for themselves by letting their communities be developed such that cars became a necessity?
I agree that something seems fishy, but the government would have to want to do something about it, which they don't. Even if they did, it is pretty tough to prove that they are colluding, don't you think?
do you have insider information on that.??
Proof of fixing? Links to proof?

No fixes. Just simple supply and demand is what is pushing prices up.
cause are politicians are corporate hookers and the public is a bunch of gullible morons who believe economics is a science and not a philosophy
The USA is the land of SUVs. Why? Because we like everything unnecessarily bigger and more powerful. I don't like the gas prices and agree that Big Oil has the government in their pockets, but the gas prices wouldn't be so hard-hitting and the oil companies wouldn't make as much money if we'd drive something reasonable.

  • I have a Cadillac and water is getting in the oil can this be fixed and how.?

It can be fixed, but you have to find where the water is coming from. Hopefully it's just an intake gasket, but it could be a head gasket and/or a cracked head. If it's below the intake it's going to get expensive. Get it taken care of before you lock up your motor.I have a Cadillac and water is getting in the oil can this be fixed and how.?
When water is in your oil in generally means that you have a blown head gasket or cracked cylinder head. Both of these problems can be fixed, however, if the cylinder head is cracked then it will need to be replaced. The work involved in replacing the head gasket, if it is the problem, should definitely be done by a professional. Without knowing what year your Cadillac is, it is hard to give you a better idea about an average cost for repair. Good Luck!I have a Cadillac and water is getting in the oil can this be fixed and how.?
usually either a head gasket or an intake manifold gasket, hopefully the block is not messed up or the heads cracked.

It can be fixed. good luck..
It's usually a head gasket. It can be fixed but will cost 700-1000 dollars assuming no other problems.
well u dont say what year your caddy is but it could be a head gasket or a cracked head and yes it can be fixed
脤f water is getting in the oil, in any car, it means that your Cylinder head gasket has gone. Unlikely to be a breach in the engine metalwork.

Do you have ';Yoghurt'; looking stuff on your oil filler cap?

If you just have the white spots on your dip stick, that could be condensation...but if the cap get's more than white spots....it's the gasket.
Probably a Northstar engine. The Northstar is a super engine until it starts going bad, usually coolant leaks and seals in the intake assy. After it begins you may as well toss it into the ocean. The Northstar is so complex a rebuild kit isn't even available so you either buy another used one or a NEW one from GM. The problems with the Northstar have been present since it was introduced.Typical GM thinking is they feel it's cheaper to just keep producing defective units vs re-engineering the engine. Try a mechanic that has LOTS of experience with the Northstars -- could be some sort of non-GM approved 'fix' out there somewhere.
    can't be fixed scrap it

Do Oil companies pay more for oil when the spot price goes up per barrel or do they have fixed contract price?

It always seems like the price of gas goes up instantaneously when the spot commodity price of a barrel of oil goes up.Do Oil companies pay more for oil when the spot price goes up per barrel or do they have fixed contract price?
The system is not working as simple as you describe it. It is very complex.

Oil companies, the major ones at least, usually pump their own oil. They have exploitation premisions from the countries that they are pumping the oil from. In every contract the case is different. In some cases they pay a fixed amount at the beggining to take the permit in other cases they pay a fixed amount per barrel they pump. The most usualy case is that in these permit they agree on some very complicated formulas that determine the ammount the companies pay to the countries for each barrel. In these case they take under consideration the cost of pumping, oil prices, investements, number of barrels pumped etc.

In any case the oil companies are affected by increased oil prices but not as much as the consumer.

As for commodity markets usually they work with Futures and Options. Both of them are financial products. I will try to make a generalization to explain how they work.

Lets say that you want to buy a barrel of oil in six months. You believe that in six months the barrel will cost 60$. Then you buy a future that worths 60$. In six months you go to the market to buy your barell. If the barrel costs more than 60$ you use your future and take it at that price. If it costs less you do not use your future and buy it normaly. Do not take all these leteraly, the way futures and options work is far more complex and they are also under the supply and demand law.

Please note that oil is not baught only by Oil companies but also countries.

When the spot value goes up usually the future and options value go up. This is not always the case but today in oil market this is the reality. That means that when the prices increases the companies anticipate that in the future when they will need to buy more futures to buy more oil they will have to pay more money. What they do is they sell the oil they allready have at a higher price to find the money to buy the new options and futures.

You can understand now why when the spot prices go up you have an imidiate increase on the gass at the gass station. They will sell oil at higher prices even though they use reserves that they bought much cheaper to compencate for the future prices they will have to pay.

One more reason for the immidiate rises at the gass-stations is the fact that the gass-station owners and gass distributors take advantage of the situation. When all the media say that the prices go higher they find it a great oportunity to take advantage and make more money. Also they have to find the money to buy in the future the more expensive oil.

Please also note that the taxes on fuels, in most countries, are a precentege of its value. So the higher the price the more taxes you pay. Finaly the supply chain of oil is complecated and a lot of different companies take part in it. All of them have a specific margin that they calculate it on the price they bought the oil. The gass that you buy at the pump is much more expencive than the oil that it is pumped at the well.Do Oil companies pay more for oil when the spot price goes up per barrel or do they have fixed contract price?
gke had a good answer - I would also say that in the US and most countries, a bottleneck exists in the oil-gas system at the refinery level. In other words, refineries are running at 95% capacity (essentially 100% of real capacity). So, if oil prices rise 5%, gas prices may rise by a larger rate, as the bottleneck in the system creates an artifical pop in consumer pump prices. While some station operators will always try to take advantage of the situation and consumers, most are simply trying to accurately predict the impact on gas prices of rising oil prices.

My car recently started leaking oil, what are the odds it's just something minor that needs to be fixed?

It's not very old, 2003 hyundai tiburon. Runs great, never had any mechanical problems. A couple weeks ago the engine was making a noise, so I checked the oil and it was almost non-existent. It had only been a couple months since my last oil change. So I poured 2 quarts in and the noise stopped. Been on the look out and sure enough it's leaking oil. I've had to put another 4 quarts in since then. I'm taking it to my mechanic on Monday. But I was just wondering what do you think the odds are that it could just be something minor like a broken seal or a hole in a line or a tube that can easily be replaced? I'm trying to prepare myself for how much money it's going to cost me.My car recently started leaking oil, what are the odds it's just something minor that needs to be fixed?
You ran the oil so low that it started making a noise? Even if it's just the gaskets, which I doubt, it's gonna be expensive. My car recently started leaking oil, what are the odds it's just something minor that needs to be fixed?
Hope it is as simple a job as our misunderstanding was.

    ;-)
If it's leaking that much, it could be a seal around your oil pump. that is cheap but labor could be a hour or 2.

It could be your oil pan, but not likely to be dumping out that much.

If its not leaving ginormus puddles on your driveway, then it's something to do with the oil pump. That is moving the oil when the car is moving, but not when its shut off.

Also the oil sending switch can be a leaker (works in conjunction with the oil pump.) They are around 30 bux and usually a hr labor.
Could just be a seal. Take it to someone to look at it and give you a professional opinion. Remember, you don't have to pay them to do the work. But, you may have to pay them a fee for the time it took to diagnose it. It's better to just pay to find out, then having tons of anxiety over what it could be... :)
Depending on mileage, the odds are fair to good that it is a minor problem like a valve cover or oil pan gasket. Possibly you just may need a new drain plug.

By the way, replacing a seal is not typically cheap. It involves a fair amount of labor.

    Good luck!
You need to figure out whether it is burning the oil (there would be some blue smoke when you hit the gas coming out of the exhaust - get a friend to watch the exhaust when you hit the gas while in neutral) or if it is leaking the oil directly onto the ground(park in a space without any oil spots or over a big piece of scrap cardboard or paper the next morning see if there are oil spots when you move the car. Also, note whether the spots appear to be front the front or back or side areas under the engine. To lose a quart of oil a week is considered a major leak or large oil burner. In fact you may be able to pour in a quart at top and then quickly duck down and watch underneath to see it dripping out. If it is burning oil at that amount then you would see a little blue smoke almost everytime you hit the gas pedal.

If it is buring oil then you should try getting some oil stop leak fluid at an auto parts stores to try (they are like $5 at most) that you either add to the oil or add to the gas. If that doesn't really stop it then you can't really fix it exactly, the the inner engine parts are worn or not fitting together right. The fix would be an engine rebuild which would cost thousans usually. Excessive oil burning (usually defined as more than a quart a week or for 1,000mi traveled) may be covered under the powertrain warranty that came with the car. Hyundais usually have 10yr/100K manufacturers warranties.

FYI common cars like yours don't generally have any external oil lines. The oil travels in passages and lines that are fully contained within the engine unlike the fuel line (from the tank to the engine) or the brake lines, power steering, water/coolant. Oil leaks come from the main seal (ie between the engine and transmission) the oil pan seal (seals the oil pan to the bottom of the engine block) the oil plug itself. The seals themselves only cost maybe $20 the labor to get the work done may be a couple hundred. To have it just start leaking or burning that much oil so fast is very rare. Usually that is a small problem to start that gets bigger over time. You may want to go to your oil change place and say my car is losing oil suddenly after the last oil change can you look at it. Jiffy lube will do this for free. That may give you somehting.
well hopfully its a seal or a oil line. you can always go to your parts store and pick up a bottle of anti leak. it lubes all the seals in the engine. also, when you did your oil change last, there is a round rubber seal on the oil filter, sometimes when the old one is removed, the seal stays on the motor. have someone check to see if its still on there under the new filter. its more common then people think.

My van was burning oil and it was on the spark plugs I fixed it but how can I clean out that cylinder?

It was burning for awhileMy van was burning oil and it was on the spark plugs I fixed it but how can I clean out that cylinder?
the plug fouled BECAUSE of the oil. you fixed the effect but still have the cause. you can get by for awhile by putting plug fouler shields on the plug. These are little things that screw onto the sparkplug and keep the plug tip out of the oil for longer. here is a link to the anti foulers

    http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.鈥?/a>

he is using the anti foulers for a different application. you just need them for what they are designed forMy van was burning oil and it was on the spark plugs I fixed it but how can I clean out that cylinder?
    Clean the spark plug
Once you've got the spark plug firing again it'll clean itself out. You could add some Techron or similar fuel treatment to the gas to speed up the process.
You would have to tear down and rebuild the engine. If it is running all right, you may not have to do anything. Any residue will eventually burn off and get blown out.
automatic transmission oil will do the trick

Question on oils on skin...i have shiny skin!! How do you fix the problem?

Hi! I'm a boy..and i have a problem with oily, shiny skin....when it gets really oily...i clean my face with tissue...to get the oils of and the shine..but there is still shine.....what can i do? Is it time for me to take out makeup? I was thinking of putting a little foundation..or sometime of makeup that I could buy at sephora! Is this a good idea?Question on oils on skin...i have shiny skin!! How do you fix the problem?
No, don't use makeup, especially foundation, it will simply clog your pores and you'll end up with other problems (zits). The oil is a natural moisturizer for the skin, so it doesn't dry out and age prematurely. Daily cleaning will usually help in this regard, but you may need to do more based on your activity level, diet, etc. An old fashioned handkerchief would work better than tissue (which leaves fibers stuck to your face %26amp; may end up clogging those pores). Stridex made/makes a product that you can take with you to wipe your face clean of all the oil %26amp; grime. Also, you could smooth some baby powder over your face after the wipe down. Good luck!!!Question on oils on skin...i have shiny skin!! How do you fix the problem?
I would say no to the makeup - I have yet to find one that really controls oil. Try Clean and Clear blotting films instead of using the tissue - these work much better.

I think you should look at your skincare. I suggest using Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser twice daily and moisturise with a very light lotion such as Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturiser for Combination Skin.

Just because you have oily skin, does not mean you shouldn't moisturise - if your skin is dehydrated, it will naturally produce more of it's own oils - which is what you're trying to avoid. So the trick is, getting the balance right. You don't want to over-moisturise but you should use something.

    Hope that helps.
Powder will help reduce the look of oil.
use oil blotting sheets, biore also has a shire reducer cream u can put on after u wash your face...DO NOT wear foundation

It's not a good idea to drive without your oil cap. Yes, the check engine light probably came on because of the engine being vented to the atmosphere. The emissions systems detects this and assumes there is a breach and alerts the driver.

Stuff a rag in the oil fill before driving further after MAKING SURE you have sufficient oil left in the crank case.

If the light persists have the computer cleared or remove the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes and replace it.Lost my BMW oil cap, and my ';service engine soon'; light went on. If I replace the cap, will this get fixed?
Replacing the gas cap should make the check engine light go out. In general disconnecting the battery will NOT reset Check Engine Light. That's a pre-ODBII (pre 1996) car trick.

    Fixing our oil crisis?

Ok, so in the near future oil prices become so high we are forced to switch to an alternative LONG TERM solution.

In your opinion what is the best solution?Fixing our oil crisis?
why can't we have both? i mean drill and pursue alternative energy? i have never heard a politician use the word compromiseFixing our oil crisis?
Long-term? You mean like the pressing need to start reducing greehouse gasses while simultaneously developing sources to supply or energy needs beyond the next 80 years?

There is no single solution. There are many things that must be developed to scale: clean coal, ethanol from switch grass, solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, bio-diesel, and so on combined with improvements in effeciency and where it makes sense, infrastructure development that supports all of these industrial segments.
    Yes.

Oil is the least expensive of all Energy.

    Solution---- DRILL, DRILL, %26amp; DRILL.

Also Nuclear Power %26amp; More Coal Power.

Wind Power, Solar Power, and Battery Power are all an Expensive Farce.

There is a Reason why Democrats want Higher Gas %26amp; Energy Prices----

    ALWAYS FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL.

It leads right to the Democrat Party.
Raising the price of oil does not make technological breakthroughs come faster. It just cripples the economy of everyone. The only short term and long term answer is to drill in our own country. That does 3 things: Reduces our dependence on foreign energy; keeps our money here in America and away from the Arabs who use it to finance more terrorism; and finally in a supply and demand crisis (like what we have) the only way to bring down the price is to increase the supply. It's really Economics 101.

Right now worldwide renewable sources of energy make up 1% of all energy use. If the technology was available that number would be much greater. Out of all countries in the world it is less than 1%. So even the Kyoto loving countries are not using any either. Why???? It doesn't exist. This country will face drastic, drastic economic consequences if we do not drill our own oil.
My vote for best solution? Force the oil companies to come up with alternative fuels! Ooops! No, that won't work.

Let;s try this. Provide INCENTIVES for the energy companies to come up with petroleum based fuels in the short term that do not suck us dry, and come up with long term solutions, Muclear, wind, thermal, you name it.

We have dozens of major universities that are homes to the world's leading scientists.Hey, Duke, Harvard, UCLA, Michigan, Stamford, wanna help??Here are some incentives---.

AND Keep congress the f$$$ out of it. They haven't created a drop of oilk since oil was discovered.
In my opinion, there is no oil shortage, it is just big business sticking it to us. Has anyone seen what the Big four made this year already? Billions in profit and we are willing to pay.

This off shore drilling is just an political game. It will take five years before the pipelines would be laid and producing . If there was any shortage you can bet they would be eager to drill but they don't want to because they are getting rich.

    1) Ending the war in Iraq will bring the price of oil down.

    2) Start making Iraq pay for its own rebuilding. Why are paying to rebuild Iraq anyway?

    3) People could just protest the high gas prices by staying home or using alternative transportation.

    Vote Obama
Drill, Drill Drill, Converve Cosnrve , alternate forms. There will be a transition period with oil and unless we fix the supply and demand equation the prices will only go higher as the rest of the world uses oil.
    There is no oil crisis.

There is an oil ';price'; crisis.

    It's all political.

Other than being more conservative (which we should be) and not using more than we need, then there really is no short term solution to high prices.
    Common sense and conservation.
Drill know and figure it out later, alternative energy is further a way than Anwar...
nuclear power produced hydrogen supplemented by microbe produced methane for heavy equipment.
nationalize the oil industry...gas is 12 cents a gallon in Argentina
Live in closer to your job, smaller houses, Customers for higher MPG cars.
Let's live in teepees again and walk to work.

You blew your head gasket. The white smoke is actually steam coming out of your exhaust from radiator coolant that leaked into your motor. DO NOT DRIVE IT. If the head is not warped it will be a cheaper fix. If you warp the head you'll have to get them re-machined. Your vehicle will over heat. Check your coolant level and for cloudy oil. If the head is not warped it will be a cheaper fix. If you warp the head you'll have to get them re-machined. Your vehicle will over heat. Check your coolant level and for cloudy oil. Good luck.I have a 98 ford contour it's i did a bad oil change...then i fixed it. im got a ton of white smoke?
Your '98 Ford Contour is broken.

Possible head gasket blown situation with coolant mixing with oil-- burning up in engine cylinders. It's not smoke... it is steam!

    Bring car to mechanic.
oil change didnt do it..unless it all ran out.....check radiator for coolant... engine sounds cooked..if u had oil in it...0w20 or 20w50 its ok in short run and wrong filter would make oil bypass it [at worst]
sounds like you got water in the oil, take it to a lube place and have them do a full oil change and new oil filter job for you
    lmao

clear liquid leaking from the muffler

im going to have to ask for your man card back

thats water comming out its a byproduct of gas buring

white smoke has nothing to do with a oil change

    thats water in the exhaust

if it goes away when its warm its ok

other wise it could be a head gasket

I accidentally got cooking oil on the wall. It got fixed but my parents are really pissed. What do I do?

I've apologized several times. I've done every thing they told me and stayed out of trouble. I've even offered to pay for the wall with the little money I have. I was not even that much. Just a few small little splashes. They are not speaking to me. I just want to resovle the situation and move the hell on with my life. Help!I accidentally got cooking oil on the wall. It got fixed but my parents are really pissed. What do I do?
